West Ham United women’s team winger Manuela Paví helped Colombia chalk up their first victory of their Copa América Femenina campaign, playing the first 45 minutes of her side’s 4-1 success over Paraguay in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Linda Caicedo’s strike from range got Colombia up and running on 13 minutes, but Claudia Martínez Ovando restored parity just two minutes later at Estadio Gonzalo Pozo Ripalda.
However, in the second half in Quito, Ecuador, Ángelo Marsiglia’s side asserted their dominance, netting three times to take them up to four points in Group B.
First, Mayra Ramírez fired home from inside the box just before the hour mark, and then Caicedo bagged her second of the contest with a curling, left-footed finish.
Leicy Santos rounded off the scoring in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time with a well-placed header.
Colombia sit third in the five-team table, level on points with second-place Venezuela but having played a game less. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals.
Paví’s side will next be in action on Tuesday 22 July, when they take on bottom-of-the-table Bolivia (kick-off 10pm BST), who are yet to record a point from their three group-stage fixtures.
