Women's Loan Watch | Sáez scores free-kick in winning weekend for our loanees

Six West Ham United women’s team loanees were in action for their respective temporary clubs over the weekend.

Defender Camila Sáez was on target for Bristol City in a resounding 4-2 success away at Sunderland in the Barclays Women’s Super League 2 on Sunday afternoon.

Stepping up to take a free-kick just 14 minutes into the clash at Eppleton Colliery Football Ground, the Chile international brilliantly curled the set-piece into the top-right corner to give her side the upper hand.

And they only pushed on from there, increasing their lead to three after Gemma Lawley and Lexi Lloyd-Smith found the net, but the hosts struck twice in three minutes at the end of the first half to change the complexion of the game heading into half-time.

Midfielder Jess Ziu was sent on in place of Maria Farrugia midway through the second half as the Robins held firm, and eventually sealed the three points with two minutes of the 90 to play through Emily Syme, who converted expertly from the penalty spot.

The three points moved Bristol City up to third in the standings, just four points off Keira Flannery’s Charlton Athletic, who maintained their spot at the summit with a 1-0 win at second-place Birmingham City.

The midfielder played all of the contest at St Andrew's Stadium and helped the Addicks secure the narrow victory, as Katie Bradley’s seventh-minute goal was enough to see off the Blues.

Elsewhere in the division, Jessie Stapleton’s Nottingham Forest are up to fourth after they scored two second-half goals in as many minutes to complete a dramatic turnaround at Southampton.

Following a successful international break with the Republic of Ireland, in which she helped her country secure promotion to UEFA Women’s Nations League A, Stapleton played all of the game at St Mary’s Stadium and witnessed an incredible ending to the fixture.

As far as cameo appearances go, Charlie Wellings could not have done more when she was sent on with her side trailing 2-1 in the 84th minute. Having been on the field for less than two minutes, with her first touch of the game, she brought Forest level before netting the winner soon after with two identical strikes across goal.

Meanwhile, Rebekah Dowsett kept a clean sheet in Watford’s 2-0 victory away at Oxford United in the FA Women's National League Southern Premier Division on Sunday.

A goal in each half from Izzy Fisher and Anne Meiwald maintained the Hornets’ unbeaten start to the league season after nine games. Midfielder Soraya Walsh was an unused substitute at Court Place Farm.

And capping off a winning weekend for all of our loanees, Ruby Warwick was named as a substitute for Barking, who scored ten unanswered goals at home to Ebbsfleet United in the London & South East Regional Women's Premier Division at the weekend to stay eighth in the standings.

The Blues had seven different goalscorers at Mayesbrook Park Lodge Avenue, including Asanteni Charles, who bagged a hat-trick.
