Amber Tysiak and the Belgium national team fell to a 1-0 loss against Italy in their opening UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 fixture on Thursday evening.
The West Ham United women’s team defender, featuring at her second European Championships, started the Group B clash at Stade Tourbillon, Sion, Switzerland, but Arianna Caruso’s goal on the stroke of half-time saw the Red Flames defeated in their first match of the tournament.
Bayern Munich midfielder Caruso fired the ball into the top-left corner from inside the penalty area to give Italy the lead, with nothing Lisa Lichtfus could do in the Belgium goal, and Le Azzurre went on to dominate the second half.
Belgium will have to quickly turn their attention to their game against world champions Spain on Monday 7 July (kick-off 5pm BST) at Stockhorn Arena, Thun.
The two sides previously met twice in Group A3 of the UEFA Women’s Nations League, which saw Spain, who face Portugal later this evening, come out on top on both occasions.
Next up, goalkeeper Kinga Szemik and Poland will compete in their first-ever match at a major tournament when they face 2022 runners-up Germany at AFG Arena, St. Gallen, on Friday 4 July (kick-off 8pm BST) in Group C.
