Women's Loan Watch | Flannery features in another Charlton win, Sáez nets first Bristol City goal

Six West Ham United women’s team loanees were in action for their respective temporary clubs over the weekend.

Keira Flannery’s Charlton Athletic continued their unbeaten start to the Barclays Women’s Super League 2 season with a 1-0 win away at Newcastle United on Sunday.

The 20-year-old played the majority of the contest at Gateshead International Stadium, being withdrawn in the 89th minute with her side ahead thanks to Katie Bradley’s penalty just before the hour mark.

The win leaves the Addicks second in the standings, behind leaders Birmingham City only on goal difference, with a trip to Sunderland to come on Sunday.

Elsewhere in the division, Camila Sáez netted her first goal for Bristol City at the weekend, but her side were beaten 2-1 at home by Jessie Stapleton’s Nottingham Forest.

The Chile international gave the Robins the lead at Ashton Gate, glancing a header beyond Emily Batty midway through the first half, but a Sophie Ingle red card moments before the break changed the landscape of the contest.

After Sáez was withdrawn with 20 minutes to play, two goals in the space of three minutes sent the Tricky Trees on their way to a second league win of the season, with Stapleton playing all of the contest at the heart of their defence.

Forest will look to chalk up back-to-back league victories when they host Portsmouth on Sunday, while Bristol City will hope to bounce back when they welcome Durham to Ashton Gate at the weekend.

Midfielder Jess Ziu, who is also on loan at Bristol City, was not involved in their matchday squad.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Rebekah Dowsett kept her second successive league clean sheet as Watford were among the goals again at the weekend, securing a 6-0 success away at QPR.

The shot-stopper watched her side storm to a five-goal advantage at half-time, before adding a sixth just before the hour mark. Fellow Hammers loanee Soraya Walsh was introduced to proceedings on 68 minutes.

The unbeaten Hornets, who have scored 13 goals in five league matches, travel to Exeter City on Sunday.

Also at the weekend, Ruby Warwick’s Barking secured an emphatic 5-1 victory at home to Newhaven in the South East Regional Women's Premier Division thanks to braces from Laura Bunton and Asanteni Charles, and a Miquellah Meade goal.

Barking will turn their attentions to a trip to Ramsey & Mistley in the third qualifying round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup on Sunday.
