Tysiak: We can build on the clean sheet

West Ham United defender Amber Tysiak says the team can build on a clean sheet against Brighton & Hove Albion as they look to finish the Barclays Women’s Super League season strongly.

The Hammers recorded just their second clean sheet of the campaign - both which have come against the Seagulls - with a closely-fought encounter ending in a 0-0 draw at Chigwell Construction Stadium.

Clear-cut chances were few and far between throughout a match full of endeavor, but West Ham lacked the cutting edge in front of goal to turn a hard-fought point into three.

However, Tysiak, who will now jet off on international duty with Belgium as they try to earn a spot at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, believes a clean sheet is a building block for the remainder of the season.

“I thought we played quite a good game but unfortunately it was just a draw as I thought we could score and get the three points,” said Tysiak. “At least we have one point and it’s something to build on.

“We get a point with the draw but there is a bit of disappointment because it could have been more. We got a clean sheet which as a defender you are happy with because you want to score more goals than get them against you.

“As a defender it gives you confidence for the next games and it’s always nice to keep a clean sheet. If you have a clean sheet, you know you are guaranteed at least a point, and we only need to score one at the other end to get three points. Hopefully next time we can get the three points.

“The fans are so important for us and every week they come when we are playing at home, give us so much support and help push us for the extra effort. They’ve been brilliant for us and have helped us get points.

Next up for the 24-year-old are those international fixtures with Belgium as they look to book their spot at next year's Women's Euro's, when they face Spain and Denmark on 5 and 9 April respectively.

“It will be two big games, so it is always nice to go back to Belgium to play for my national team and I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be challenging," Tysiak concluded.
