Snerle: I've been building up my confidence and match fitness

Emma Snerle says that West Ham United women’s team have some strong momentum heading into Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture with Liverpool.

The Denmark midfielder came off the bench to help the Hammers to a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in their previous outing, assisting Viviane Asseyi in the second half in front of a 3,000-strong crowd at Chigwell Construction Stadium.

Now, the Irons prepare to head to Merseyside to take on Matt Beard’s Liverpool at Prenton Park, and Snerle is hoping the team can continue to move forward and pick up more points.

She said: “It was obviously really good to be able to contribute to the team. It was my first assist since coming back from injury, so that was nice. The team did really well in the second half, which made things easier for me coming off the bench.

“The game felt like it was two different ones because of how we played in each half. In the first half, I thought we were a little bit slow to react and we let them have too much of the ball. In the second half we were able to make sure we pressed better as a team, and I think that was a big factor in us getting back into the game.”

The Irons have put in some impressive performances since the turn of the year, picking up seven points in the WSL in 2024.

Snerle has been building up her match fitness during those games, with the 22-year-old having missed the first part of the season due to injury.

“It always takes time to come back from injuries,” Snerle said. “Unfortunately, I’ve had a lot of time away from the pitch since I joined West Ham. I needed that time to get my match fitness back and find the level again, and I feel like I’m getting there.

“It’s so important in football to build your confidence back up and I feel like I’ve been able to do that now, and I’m really looking forward to the next game.

“The game against United has given us some momentum. To get a draw against a really good team and play the way that we did in the second half is really positive, and we need to make sure we take that into the game against Liverpool on Sunday.

“We’re all feeling fresh after not playing last weekend, which gave some of us a little bit of time to relax and recharge, and now we’re ready to go again and put in a positive performance away from home.”
