Smith: It's a dream come true to reach 50 caps for my country

Kirsty Smith has hit two milestones for Club and country in the same week!

The defender made her 50th West Ham United appearance in the 0-0 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday 31 March, and followed that up by hitting her 50th cap for Scotland in their draw with Serbia on Friday.

Smith was returning to international action for the first time in over a year, and started the first of Scotland's UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 qualifiers at Gradski Stadion Dubočica, where Serbia proved to be tricky opponents as the game finished goalless.

For the 30-year-old defender, tallying 50 appearances for her country and being back involved in the national team set-up was a really proud and pleasing moment.

"This is a really proud moment for me and I'm delighted to have reached this milestone," said Smith, speaking to the official Scotland National Team media after the full-time whistle.

"It's something I've always dreamed about and now that it has come, it's a dream come true.

"It's nice to be part of the squad and being back here with everyone, and that's a real positive for me.

"We've had a really great week of training so far, I've really enjoyed being back with the girls and the team. There's much more to come from us moving forward."

The match against Serbia saw Scotland go closest through former West Ham United forward Jane Ross, who cannoned an effort off the woodwork soon after coming on as a substitute.

While Pedro Martínez Losa's side looked largely composed at the back, they would have hoped to have made more of a dent in the Serbian defence.

Smith says the game has given them a lot to build on as they prepare to face Slovakia at Hampden Park on Tuesday evening, in their final match of the international break.

She added: "There were a lot of positives in the game. We had chances, and we've been able to keep a clean sheet, which is a positive. We had a really good defence tonight.

"We'll obviously implement a few things, we've worked hard in training and we'll continue to do that.

"We want to be picking up these points and hopefully we'll continue to do so and improve with every game."
