Morgan & Brasero | We're really happy to score our first goals for the Club

First West Ham United starts, first West Ham United goals for Ffion Morgan and Sarah Brasero.

The pair helped the women’s team secure a scintillating 5-1 success at The Valley, as we soared to the top of the early Group C standings in the Subway® Women's League Cup.

Wales international Morgan gave us the lead in south-east London, firing the ball into the bottom corner and she caused Charlton problems throughout down the right-hand side.

The pick of the bunch were saved for the second half, though. Step forward Manuela Paví and Leila Wandeler, who both found the exact same spot in the top-right corner with sensational strikes from range - with Colombia international Paví firing hers home, as Wandeler watched her strike curl into the net.

Brasero was next to get in on the act, showing that persistence pays off as she made her way into the box before slotting home and Shekiera Martinez rounded off the scoring with a clinical finish into the roof of the net.

Morgan was full of praise for the goalscorers, insisting her side have been working on their finishing in training - and the work has more than paid off.

“I think you could see on the pitch, everyone wanted to get a shot at goal,” she said. “There were some worldies out there as well! It was a really good performance, and we’re really happy.

“I was really happy to score. We've been practicing our finishing after training. To get a lot of goalscorers, five different goalscorers, is really good.

“I know the BWSL 2 is a hard league as well. It brings a different game. They're tough, they're not easy to beat. So for us to take the lead, but then really break them down in the second half, it just shows that we've been doing something really good.

“It gives us a lot of confidence in our play. Different goalscorers, different people bringing different things to the game, so we can really kick on now. A quick turnaround for Chelsea and hopefully we can get some points at home.”

Meanwhile, it was a proud moment for Brasero as she scored in front of her family at The Valley, and she arguably enjoyed watching Wandeler’s goal more than scoring her own!

“It was really good to score my first goal for the Club," she said. "Obviously, I saw it hit the post first, so it was a bit of an intense moment, but when it went in, I was so happy to score.

“I'm so happy for both of them (Paví and Wandeler). I was behind Leila when she scored. When I saw her produce the nutmeg and then curl it into the top bins, I was like, ‘Wow’. I was speechless to be honest!

“It was really nice to have my parents in the crowd. I didn't know they were going to come. Before the game, I saw them up there and it was really nice to get a goal for them.”
