Freddie Potts in action for Wycombe Wanderers

Loan Watch | Potts features as Wycombe beat Bristol Rovers

Four West Ham United loanees were in action in the New Year's fixtures across the divisions...

Freddie Potts played the full 90 minutes for Wycombe Wanderers as the Blues held on for a frantic 3-2 win over Bristol Rovers in EFL League One.

Making his first start at Adams Park since an absence due to injury, back at the end of October, the midfielder featured from the start as Matt Bloomfield's side took a deserved lead on 29 minutes, as Ryan Tafazolli turned home a header from Luke Leahy's cross.

Josh Scowen was sent off with just over an hour played for the home side, but Wycombe did not allow their heads to dip as Sam Vokes bundled in Tafazolli's knock-down from Leahy's corner.

Leahy then thought he had made the result comfortable on 80 minutes, putting Wycombe three goals up, but Rovers fought back in added time as Chris Martin pulled two goals back from a pair of Harvey Vale crosses.

However, Potts and his teammates were able to hold on for a first win in 12 games in League One, moving the side up to 16th in the table.

Flynn Downes playing on loan at Southampton

Elsewhere, up a division in the EFL Championship, Flynn Downes and Southampton were held to a 1-1 draw away to Norwich City.

Downes was once again named in the starting XI, making his 19th appearance in the Championship this campaign. In a match of few chances, it was the Saints that took the lead on 70 minutes as Adam Armstrong tapped in from Kyle Walker-Peters cross.

The advantage would only last eight minutes though, with Norwich hitting back through Josh Sargent's equaliser.

The draw leaves the Saints in third in the Championship, four points behind second-placed Ipswich Town in the table.

Appiah-Forson and Levi Laing in training

Keenan Appiah-Forson was also in action, helping Dagenham & Redbridge secure a frantic 4-4 draw away to Eastleigh.

Tom Eastman and Josh Rees had put the Daggers in control away at the Silverlake Stadium, but former Hammer Paul McCallum's double late in the first half ensured the score was level at the break.

Jayden Harris then completed the fight-back for the hosts, putting them 3-2 up, but Rees restored parity on 56 minutes.

McCallum earned his hat-trick on 67 minutes but a thrilling eight-goal fixture was finalised ten minutes before the final whistle when Inih Effiong levelled once again for Dagenham.

Dagenham now sit 15th in the National League table.

Finally, goalkeeper Mason Terry and his Concord Rangers side were on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat to Canvey Island in the Canvey derby. A goal from striker Sam Higgins just before half-time saw the Gulls win 1-0 at the Movie Starr Stadium.
