Gideon Kodua

Loan Watch | Super-sub Kodua rescues point for Luton

In midweek league action, Gideon Kodua was the hero for the Hatters as Luton Town came from two goals down to rescue a point against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

A CJ Hamilton brace looked to have condemned Luton to their fourth defeat in six games, but a host of attacking substitutions, including Kodua on the left wing, changed the tide for Matt Bloomfield’s side.

Kodua went close shortly after coming on with an effort from 25 yards, and the Hatters’ shoot on sight policy paid off when Jordan Clark’s shot from outside the box was deflected cruelly beyond a helpless Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

In stoppage time, Kodua made his mark, winning his side a penalty and coolly converting to earn a 2-2 draw on the road when they seemed destined to fall to back-to-back away defeats. The share of the spoils from their game in hand now moves them within two points of Wimbledon, who occupy the final League One play-off place.

In the Enterprise National League, Finlay Herrick continued his unbeaten start to life at Boreham Wood as they played out a 1-1 draw at home to promotion rivals Southend United.

Despite Herrick's four saves, the Wood eventually succumbed to late pressure from the Shrimpers. Matt Rush had given the home side the lead midway through the second half, but Southend substitute Josh Walker was on hand to tap home off a Herrick save with just under ten minutes left in front of Southend's 800-strong away support.

Herrick’s Boreham Wood are now 13 games unbeaten in all competitions and travel to Yeovil Town at the weekend looking to close the gap on first-place Forest Green Rovers.

Further down the table, Mason Terry and Regan Clayton’s Braintree Town bravely fought back to rescue a 1-1 draw at Aldershot Town.

Josh Barrett put the Shots ahead in the 64th minute, shortly before Braintree's James Vennings was sent off for a second bookable offence. Despite that huge setback, for a Braintree side that lost six of their first seven away games this season, Chay Cooper equalised in the 80th minute, earning the Iron a valuable point.

Finally, in the EFL Championship, Kaelan Casey featured on the bench for Swansea City, who came from behind to beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Ewood Park, moving them within one point of the promotion places.
