Oona Siren

Internationals | Siren assists for Finland in late Norway defeat

Eva Nyström and Oona Siren both played another 90 minutes for Finland at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, but their side suffered late heartbreak in a 2-1 loss against Norway on Sunday evening in Sion.

After Norway took the lead with just three minutes played - an unfortunate own-goal from Nyström - midfielder Siren inspired Helmarit to an equaliser before half-time. West Ham United women’s team’s No4 played a perfectly-weighted pass to slip Oona Sevenius through on goal, and the Finland striker duly obliged with a clinical finish into the top-right corner.

Moving into the second half, Finland frustrated Norway and could have taken the lead for the first time in the contest just after the hour when Eveliina Summanen’s strike hit the base of the post.

Nyström and Siren’s side looked on course to collect their fourth point of their Group A campaign, following their 1-0 victory over Iceland on Wednesday. But in the 84th minute, after tidy footwork, Caroline Graham Hansen’s cross from inside the penalty area looped into the far corner of the net to clinch all three points for Norway at Stade Tourbillon.

The result leaves Norway top of the standings with two victories from two games, as Finland remain on three points ahead of Iceland’s clash with hosts Switzerland at Wankdorf Stadium, Bern, on Sunday evening.

Finland’s final group-stage match comes against Switzerland on Thursday 10 July (kick-off 8pm BST) at Stade de Genève in Lancy.
