Dinos Mavropanos has been included in the Greece squad for two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers to be played in early September.
Greece have been drawn in UEFA qualifying Group C alongside Denmark, Belarus and Scotland, with the group winners qualifying for next summer’s finals in North America, and the runners-up going into a play-off.
The West Ham United defender and his compatriots kick-off their campaign with a home tie with Belarus at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus on Friday 5 September at 7.45pm BST (9.45pm EEST).
Three days later, Denmark – who could include goalkeeper Mads Hermansen in their squad – visit the same venue on Monday 8 September, also at 7.45pm BST (9.45pm EEST).
Away ties in Scotland and Denmark follow in October, before Greece complete their six-tie qualifying campaign at home to Scotland and away to Belarus, albeit that match will be played in Hungary due to UEFA sanctions relating to the war in Ukraine.
Mavropanos has been a regular member of the starting XI since making his debut in a friendly win over Honduras in March 2021. Of the 45 senior internationals Greece have played since then, Mavropanos has missed just nine, starting the other 36.
The 27-year-old has scored twice for his country, with both goals coming in a UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying win over Gibraltar in his home city of Athens in September 2023.
Greece have qualified for the World Cup three times previously, in 1994, 2010 and 2014, with a best of reaching the round of 16 in Brazil eleven years ago.
