Internationals | Denton receives first senior England call-up

West Ham United women’s team defender Anouk Denton has received her first-ever call-up to England’s senior squad for the Lionesses' friendly against Australia on Tuesday night.

Our No18 has been with England’s U23s this month, featuring alongside fellow Hammer Sarah Brasero against Germany U23s on Thursday evening, and has now been called up by Sarina Wiegman to join her reigning European champions for their final match of the international break.

The 22-year-old, who has started every Barclays Women’s Super League fixture this season, represented England at U17 and U19 levels before enjoying her first minutes with the U23s on the international stage in September 2023.

Indeed, Denton, who was nominated for the Young Player of the Year prize at the Women's Football Awards last season, has since been a regular in Emma Coates’ side and has caught the eye of manager Wiegman, who has led the Lionesses to back-to-back UEFA Women’s European Championship triumphs over the last three years.

Under the lights at Pride Park Stadium on Tuesday evening in Derby, the full-back will hope to make her senior debut - and become the third Hammer to represent the Lionesses after Claire Lacey and Rachel Daly - when England host Katrina Gorry’s Matildas in a 7pm GMT kick-off.

The two teams last met in the semi-finals of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, when the Lionesses ran out 3-1 winners in New South Wales. Irons captain Gorry was in action against Ffion Morgan and Wales in Cardiff at the weekend, securing a 2-1 success in the friendly.

Denton and Gorry are two of 19 Hammers who are set to be in action on Tuesday evening. To find out more about who else will be involved, click HERE.
