Internationals | Brasero assist helps Young Lionesses earn draw with Portugal

West Ham United women’s team midfielder Sarah Brasero provided an assist to help England U23s secure a 1-1 draw at home to Portugal U23s and record their first point of the new WU23 European competition campaign.

The visitors took an early lead at Sixfields Stadium in Northampton, slamming the ball into the top-right corner with just eight minutes on the clock.

But responding positively, the Young Lionesses equalised eleven minutes after half-time, and our No21, who played all of the contest, played a key role in the leveller. Receiving the ball on the half-turn on the edge of the box, Brasero intelligently slipped Keira Barry through on goal, who duly obliged with a cultured finish.

However, it could have been all three points for Emma Coates’ side, who crashed the crossbar with an Olivia McLoughlin volley in the last minute of normal time.

England will resume their WU23 European competition campaign at home to Norway U23s during the November international break.
