Internationals | Hanshaw in Austria squad for Czechia Nations League play-off tie

West Ham United left-back Verena Hanshaw has been called up by Austria for their crucial UEFA Women’s Nations League play-off tie during the October international break.

In June, Austria finished third in Group A1, having faced Germany, the Netherlands and Scotland after collecting six points from as many games.

Irene Fuhrmann’s side will now face Group B4’s second-place side Czechia, who were in a group alongside Ukraine, Albania and Croatia, over two legs to retain their League A status.

The first leg will take place at Městský Fotbalový Stadion in Brno in the Czech Republic on Friday 24 October, with kick-off at 4.30pm BST.

At 5pm GMT on Tuesday 28 October, Austria will then host the second leg at Generali Arena in Vienna.

Hanshaw has racked up more than 100 senior international appearances for Austria since making her debut in 2011. She was the only Austrian to be named in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 Best Eleven after helping her side reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

She also represented her country at UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, where she started all four matches as Austria reached the quarter-finals of the competition.

Our No29 joined the Club in January from Italian outfit AS Roma and has since made 17 appearances in all competitions - with five of them coming this season.
