Niclas Füllkrug has been named in Julian Nagelsmann’s 23-man Germany squad for the start of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign next month.
The four-time global champions will be looking to get their bid for a 21st appearance at a World Cup off to a strong start, having fallen to two defeats - to Portugal and France in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals and third-place play-off respectively - during the last international break in June.
Drawn into UEFA Group A, Germany are first scheduled to travel to Slovakia on Thursday 4 September (7.45pm BST), before hosting Northern Ireland in Cologne on Sunday 7 September (7.45pm BST) - a clash that could see Füllkrug line up against fellow West Ham United forward Callum Marshall.
Füllkrug appeared in both of the aforementioned Nations League ties at the start of the summer, and overall boasts a strong record of 14 goals in 24 games for his national side.
He could feature against both Slovakia and Northern Ireland for the first time in his career, as he ultimately looks to earn a spot at a second World Cup, having scored twice in three outings at Qatar 2022.
Following an injury-affected 2024/25 season, Füllkrug enjoyed a strong pre-season with the Hammers, during which he scored in three successive fixtures against Everton, AFC Bournemouth and LOSC Lille, and he has so far featured twice in the Premier League, and once in the Carabao Cup, in 2025/26.
Luxembourg are the fourth team in Group A, who Germany are set to tackle at home in the next international break in October.
