Fin Herrick

Academy Internationals | Herrick moved up to England U21s squad

West Ham United Academy goalkeeper Fin Herrick has been moved up to the England U21s squad ahead of their UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier against Slovakia at 5pm GMT on Tuesday 18 November.

The 19-year-old shot-stopper, who impressed during his two-and-a-half month loan spell at Boreham Wood in the Enterprise National League earlier this season, replaces Manchester United’s Elyh Harrison, joining fellow goalkeepers Tommy Setford of Arsenal and Stoke City’s Tommy Simkin in the U21s ranks.

Herrick made his England U20s debut earlier in this international window, guarding the net in a 1-1 draw against Japan in Doncaster.

The U21s, who have won the last two UEFA European U21 Championships, in 2023 and 2025, have made a flawless start to their qualifying campaign for the 2027 tournament, winning all four of their Group D games so far without conceding.

They were last in action on Friday 14 November, when a penalty from former West Ham Academy forward Divin Mubama and a late Tyrique George strike earned a 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland at Birmingham City's St Andrew's Stadium.

The qualifying group stage runs until October 2026, followed by play-offs the following month ahead of the final tournament in summer 2027 in Albania and Serbia.

The nine qualifying group winners and the runner-up with the best record (not counting results against sixth-placed teams) progress directly to the final tournament to join co-hosts Albania and Serbia. The eight other runners-up will contest play-offs to determine the last four finalists.

Should Herrick feature in England’s qualifier in Prešov, Slovakia on Tuesday, it will be the sixth England age group he will have represented, having previously been capped at U16s through U20s.
