Inès Belloumou made her first appearance for Algeria at a major tournament as she played all of Les Fennecs’ opening Women's Africa Cup of Nations fixture in which they claimed a 1-0 victory over Botswana on Sunday evening.
On the second day of the 15th edition of the tournament, held in Morocco, Ghoutia Karchouni’s first-time finish after just ten minutes played proved enough to get Algeria’s Group B campaign up and running at Stade Père Jégo, Casablanca.
Algeria, competing in their sixth Africa Cup of Nations, will strive to clinch back-to-back victories when they return to Stade Père Jégo to face Tunisia, who suffered a 3-0 loss to Nigeria in their opening game, on Thursday 10 July (kick-off 5pm BST).

Meanwhile, Dagný Brynjarsdóttir started her first match of UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 on Sunday, but it came as Iceland were knocked out of the competition after a 2-0 defeat against hosts Switzerland at Wankdorf Stadium.
The West Ham United women’s team No10, representing her country at her fourth European Championships, came on as a second-half substitute in Stelpurnar okkar’s opening game against Finland on Wednesday and earned herself a spot in Þorsteinn Halldórsson’s starting XI for their second Group A clash.
In Bern, Switzerland thought they had opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark when Svenja Folmli’s header found the net via a deflection off Glodis Perla Viggosdottir, but the goal was ruled out for a foul in the build-up.
But they eventually did break the deadlock on 76 minutes when Sydney Schertenleib played through Geraldine Reuteler, who finished with composure, before Alayah Pilgrim struck from the edge of the box in the dying stages to secure Switzerland’s first three points of the tournament.
Iceland will still aim for three points in their final group-stage clash against Norway on Thursday 10 July (8pm BST) at Stockhorn Arena in Thun.
