Flannery involved for England U19s in thrilling draw with the Netherlands

Keira Flannery helped England U19s to a thrilling 3-3 draw against the Netherlands on Monday evening, in their final Algarve Cup fixture of the international break.

The Young Lionesses ended their time in Portugal unbeaten, having drawn their opening fixture with the hosts, 2-2, before following that up with an emphatic 5-1 demolition of Sweden last week.

Flannery had featured in both of those matches so far, assisting in the win over Sweden, and came off the bench on the hour mark on Monday.

This time around, England started quickly, with Michelle Agyemang converting after only two minutes. However, the Netherlands were able to hit back before the first half concluded through Bo van Egmond.

Freya Godfrey restored the lead just after the restart, reacting quickest to convert Ashanti Akpan’s header which had bounced off the crossbar and back into danger.

Another scramble in the box saw the Young Lionesses score a third, with Agyemang on hand to score her second.

That wouldn’t be the end of the story, though, as the Netherlands hit back through Danique Tolhoek and then snatched a late equaliser courtesy of Lotte Keukelaar.

Flannery will now return to east London ahead of West Ham United's two remaining WSL fixtures of 2023.
