Burnley v West Ham United
Premier League, Turf Moor, Saturday 25 November 2023, 3pm GMT

West Ham United make a return to Premier League action following the November international break with a trip to face Burnley.

The game at Turf Moor kicks off a busy schedule at the end of 2023 for David Moyes’ side as the Irons compete across the Premier League, UEFA Europa League and Carabao Cup in the run up to Christmas.

The Hammers head into the match against the Clarets sat ninth in the Premier League, with 17 points from 12 league matches contested. A 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last time out sent West Ham into the international break with smiles on their faces.

Vincent Kompany’s Burnley, meanwhile, have four points from their first season back in the English top-flight, and sit bottom of the Premier League table.

Tickets…

Supporters are advised that West Ham United's allocation of 2,283 tickets for the Premier League match at Turf Moor sold out to Bondholders, Away Scheme Members and Season Ticket Holders with 29 or more Loyalty Points.

Opposition…

The Premier League dream at Burnley could be becoming a nightmare.

After relegation to the Championship in 2021/22, Vincent Kompany’s appointment to the top job at Turf Moor not only saw a new style of playing implemented across the Clarets, but the results to back them up.

With 101 points secured, and just three losses in 46 Championship matches, Burnley stormed back into the Premier League at the first time of asking, leaving Clarets fans eagerly anticipating the 2023/24 season back in the big time.

A third of the way through the season, though, and Burnley will need a real upturn in fortune to avoid an immediate return to the second division.

Just four points have been claimed in 12 league matches for Kompany’s side, leaving Burnley at the bottom of the Premier League table. Those points, claimed in a victory and a draw, were all picked up on the road, away at Nottingham Forest and Luton Town.

With just nine goals scored, the lowest in the division so far, there is clear cause for concern. But, even in amongst the worries, there are reasons for optimism for Burnley fans.

So far this season they have faced eight of the Premier League’s top ten from last season in their first 12 matches of the campaign, and Saturday’s hosts have a run of fixtures through December that they will feel it is possible to collect much needed points in.

Following West Ham’s visit to Turf Moor, Sheffield United make the trip to Burnley, before away trips to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brighton & Hove Albion. A home test against former manager Sean Dyche’s Everton is after that before an away match against Fulham on Saturday 23 December.

Failing to find winning form in that spell could prove disastrous for Burnley’s survival prospects.

Burnley record

Previous Meetings…

Visits to Turf Moor have produced mixed results for West Ham United in the Premier League era.

The Hammers were beaten 2-1 at Burnley’s home of 140 years in February 2010. Since then, the Irons have won three, drawn two and lost two others in their seven other games there, including a 0-0 draw in our last Premier League visit in December 2021.

Sam Allardyce also secured a 2-0 League Cup win at Turf Moor in October 2013, when Burnley were in the Championship.

Prior to the Premier League era, West Ham’s biggest win at Turf Moor was a 5-3 First Division victory in 1974, and the Hammers’ heaviest defeat there was a 6-0 First Division reverse in March 1962.
