Nuno Espírito Santo said his West Ham United players are making improvements individually and collectively, but still have a lot more work to do, after leading them to back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time this season.
The Hammers fell behind before roaring back to victory at London Stadium for a second weekend in succession, following a 3-1 win over Newcastle United last Sunday with a 3-2 success against Scott Parker’s Burnley on Saturday.
While Nuno was clearly pleased to see goals from striker Callum Wilson and substitutes Tomáš Souček and Kyle Walker-Peters secure three points after the Clarets had taken a first-half lead, the Head Coach also knows his team cannot afford to be so charitable in the future.
Speaking to West Ham TV, Nuno thanked the Claret and Blue Army for sticking with his team after seeing Zian Flemming head Burnley into a first-half lead, and vowed to continue working hard with his squad during the international break and beyond to raise their levels.
It's very hard to win successive games in the Premier League and we've done it, which is really good.
I think we can see some improvements in our boys. This is what we've been focused on individually, but we cannot [get carried away].
There were moments, especially in the beginning of the game, that I think we didn't start well. We let Burnley have the ball, so it's hard to adjust. We can see it once again.
It's a positive to react to the goal the way we did it, immediately with offensive actions, creating chances and scoring, but it's something that we have to look at as a team. It's not always going to be possible to react, so we have to try and change that situation.
But overall, we're delighted for the boys.
We’re delighted for the players who came from the bench and gave us the game.
It was Tomáš and Kyle who won us the game, and that shows that we're going to need everybody, this unity, this feeling that we are slowly building among ourselves.
We're not getting carried away.
Football has proven that we cannot think that. We are taking small steps towards the direction that we have to be as a team to be more organised, more resilient.
Today, the boys did it. Again, there were tough moments in the end, but we got ourselves a good result.
I have to thank our fans, they were amazing.
I always say, let's give them something and they'll give much more in return. That's why I'm humble enough to say ‘thank you so much’.
We're going to need them again and again and again.
It's a skill, it's belief, it's experience [to score goals like we scored today by reacting quickly in the opposition penalty area].
Both of those players you mentioned, Callum and Tomáš, they have this knowledge inside of the box to occupy the right spaces. I’m delighted.
Callum, our striker, needs to score. His confidence is growing.
It’s a good day for us, a very good day.
What is important is to evaluate that we are slowly changing our game.
It's not about the table, but it’s about the details, the fine margins in football that can make the difference.
It's going to be a good couple of weeks to work. Players go to their national teams, so I hope they return healthy and ready to go, because we have a tough one [at AFC Bournemouth after the break], but it's going to be two good weeks to analyse these small things that I think we should have done better.
