West Ham United women’s team v Chelsea
Barclays Women's Super League, Chigwell Construction Stadium, Sunday 28 September 2025, 2.30pm BST
There’s another London derby on the horizon for West Ham United women’s team, as we host Chelsea at Chigwell Construction Stadium in the Barclays Women's Super League on Sunday.
The Hammers head into the weekend’s clash buoyed by their emphatic 5-1 victory over Charlton Athletic in the Subway® Women's League Cup in midweek, in which Ffion Morgan, Manuela Paví, Leila Wandeler, Sarah Brasero and Shekiera Martinez all got on the scoresheet.
Our first win of the new season acts as the perfect precursor to face the Blues, who went unbeaten on their way to lifting the WSL for a sixth successive time last season, as well as the Adobe Women’s League Cup and Subway® Women's League Cup.
Here’s everything you need to know about our fixture with Chelsea!

Tributes To Matt Beard…
Fans are encouraged to be in their seats at least five minutes before kick-off on Sunday, as there will be a minute’s applause in tribute to our former manager Matt Beard, who sadly passed away last weekend.
Beard joined us in the summer of 2018 ahead of our first season in the WSL. He led us to the final of the Women’s FA Cup at Wembley in May 2019 and helped build the foundations for our recent success.
He also enjoyed three years at Sunday's opponents Chelsea, and guided them to a Women's FA Cup final in 2012.
Tributes have also been paid to Beard in our Official Programme from his former West Ham players and Jack Sullivan, who was Managing Director of the women’s team whilst he was in charge.
Pre-match Events…
Fancy playing EA Sports FC 26 ahead of the game on Sunday? There will be an EA Sports van with five PlayStation 5 consoles in the car park from 1pm BST until kick-off, in which fans will have the chance to play the brand-new game!
There will also be face painters in the car park from 1pm BST, and Hammerhead will also be in attendance around the ground, so make sure to say hello!

Opposition...
Chelsea have picked up where they left off at the start of the 2025/26 campaign, winning their opening three matches of the fresh season.
Sonia Bompastor’s team defeated Manchester City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in the WSL curtain-raiser before winning 3-1 against Aston Villa at Villa Park. They then secured a 1-0 success against Leicester City last weekend.
Three successive victories to start the season mean Chelsea’s last league defeat came on Wednesday 1 May 2024 at Liverpool, after they went unbeaten to win the WSL title last term - their sixth successive league triumph.
The Blues stormed to the trophy with a 12-point gap between themselves and second-place Arsenal, and that was not the only piece of silverware they collected in 2024/25.
In March, Chelsea lifted the Subway® Women’s League Cup after beating Manchester City in the showpiece before seeing off Manchester United at Wembley to win the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final in May - and subsequently complete the domestic treble.
This term, Chelsea will be targeting their first-ever UEFA Women’s Champions League success after they were knocked out at the semi-final stage last season by Barcelona, losing 8-2 over the two legs.
This season, they have drawn home fixtures against Barcelona, Roma and Paris FC, and will travel to Wolfsburg, St. Pölten and Twente.
Chelsea made four signings in the summer transfer window.
Goalkeeper Becky Spencer made her move to west London permanent after spending the second half of last season on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, whilst fellow shot-stopper Livia Peng joined from Werder Bremen.
Bolstering the defence, Australia international Ellie Carpenter ended a five-year stay at OL Lyonnes to join the Blues. The 25-year-old won three league titles and two UEFA Women’s Champions Leagues in her time at the French club. Meanwhile, Germany U20 international Mara Alber arrived from Hoffenheim.
There were a host of departures from Chelsea over the summer, including Canada international Ashleigh Lawrence, who joined OL Lyonnes.
Meanwhile, Aggie Beever-Jones has enjoyed a scintillating start to the 2025/26 season, scoring in each of Chelsea’s three WSL matches.
After netting against Manchester City and Aston Villa, her seventh-minute goal against the Foxes last time out - a composed finish from close range - secured the Blues all three points.
A Chelsea academy graduate, Beever-Jones has enjoyed regular gametime at the west London club over the past two seasons, featuring in every league match last term, in which she scored nine goals.
Previous Meetings…
Rehanne Skinner’s side were the only team in 2024/25 to take a point away at Chelsea in the WSL after the Shekiera Martinez show at Kingsmeadow.
After the Irons fell two goals down, the Germany U23 international, latching onto Riko Ueki’s pass, hammered the ball under Blues goalkeeper Hannah Hampton to reduce the gap to one at half-time.
The Hammers pushed throughout the second period in search of an equaliser and, finally, it came in stoppage time when Kirsty Smith’s teasing delivery was headed back across goal and into the far corner by Martinez, sparking superb scenes in the away end!
We go in search of our first WSL victory over Chelsea on Sunday.
