Team News

Konchesky currently has four players that are on the treatment table. Jess Ziu, Lucy Parker and Emma Snerle are all recovering from longer-term injuries and are all confirmed as unavailable for the fixture against the Seagulls.

Mackenzie Arnold missed the Irons’ 3-1 away defeat against Arsenal last weekend, and it is unlikely that the Australian international will be fit enough to feature.

The Opposition

It has been a difficult start for Brighton & Hove Albion, who have lost four of their first five matches in the Women’s Super League.

Defeats to Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur – as well as in the FA Women’s League Cup to Birmingham City – have seen the club unable to build on last season’s seventh placed finish.

Instead – at the time of writing – Albion sits 11th in the table. They are just three points above last-placed Leicester City – and will have to bounce back following a disappointing 8-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

That heavy defeat took Brighton’s goal conceded to 19 – the most let-in by a club in the WSL this campaign – and also saw the aforementioned Powell step down as manager after five years in charge of the south coast club. Powell has been a huge part of the growth of the club over the past seasons. And it will be interesting to see how Brighton perform in her absence.

Amy Derricks

It will be the first Women’s Super League match in the club’s history that has not been overseen by Powell. The former England coach stepped down as manager of the club after Albion’s 8-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last time out, having been the figure in the dugout at Albion since July 2017. She had taken charge of 116 matches and secured the club’s best finish - sixth place - in the 2020/21 season.

Brighton have confirmed that assistant manager Amy Merricks, supported by Alex Penny and Perry Northeast, will take interim charge of Brighton & Hove Albion for the match against the Irons.
