David Moyes has confirmed new signings James Ward-Prowse and Edson Álvarez are both available for West Ham United’s Premier League fixture with Chelsea.
Midfield duo Ward-Prowse and Álvarez completed moves to the Hammers earlier this month, with England midfielder Ward-Prowse making the switch from Southampton and Mexico international Álvarez signing from Ajax .
Both enjoyed their first week of training at Rush Green under the watchful eye of manager Moyes, and the boss has indicated that both are in contention to feature in Sunday’s London derby against Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues.
Moyes was also able to offer a positive indication that every member of the first-team squad had come through the Premier League opener away to AFC Bournemouth unscathed, giving him a fully fit group of players to choose from this weekend.
“I’m not too sure we’ve got anyone unavailable. I think everybody is available. Both James Ward-Prowse and Edson Álvarez are available for Sunday,” he said.
Álvarez became the Hammers’ first signing of the summer on 10 August and, if he features, will make his first competitive appearance since winning the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup with Mexico last month.
Ward-Prowse, meanwhile, completed his move to the Irons on Monday and played in every Premier League match for Southampton last season, scoring nine goals and providing four assists.
Moyes is sure both acquisitions will prove to be impressive additions to his squad.
He added: “James has Premier League experience and has scored and assisted goals throughout his career. If he does that for us then he will add value to what we've already got.
“We hope Edson will bring us something as well. We're enjoying working with him and I hope both will be really positive signings for us.”
