David Moyes

Team News: Moyes issues squad update ahead of Spurs

West Ham United manager David Moyes has provided an update on the fitness of his squad ahead of our clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

After Pablo Fornals settled a 1-0 win at Aston Villa last Sunday, the Hammers face Spurs and then Chelsea in the space of four days, before our UEFA Europa Conference League group-stage kick-offs on 8 September when FCSB visit London Stadium.

The boss informed us of the difficulties of the packed schedule and how the Irons squad will have to be managed across a busy fixture list.

Moyes did not speak of any fresh injury concerns, although Ben Johnson departed the action early at Aston Villa having felt some tightness in his hamstring and will be assessed before Wednesday’s game.

“When you play a game on a Sunday and you have a midweek game it can take a bit out of you,” Moyes said in his pre-match press conference.

“I think like everybody else we are recovering. To have three Premier league games in a week is always an ask - it’s going to test your squad and the players you have. It will test us, but hopefully we will be okay.

“The games come thick and fast, and it makes it difficult.”

Moyes also gave an update on Brazil international Lucas Paquetá, who signed for West Ham United on Monday from Lyon.

“He has not trained with us yet,” Moyes stated. “We have only got the paperwork done last night. We are waiting on him arriving in today because he has to go and get his visa etc...

“But he’s signed which is the great news for us. We are really pleased we have got him.

“I really hope he will be a big addition for us and a good player for West Ham in the future.”
