Lucas Paquetá in action for Brazil

Internationals | Paquetá and Diouf face-off in Brazil win

Lucas Paquetá and El Hadji Malick Diouf faced each other in Brazil’s 2-0 friendly victory over Senegal on Saturday.

The pair both came off the bench during the second half at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium as the South American nation proved too strong for Diouf’s Senegal.

Leading 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Chelsea’s Estêvão and Manchester United midfielder Casemiro, Brazil called for Paquetá from the bench with seven minutes remaining as our No10 won his 60th international cap.

Diouf made his entrance seven minutes earlier, but was powerless to prevent his side from falling to defeat.

Mads Hermansen was an unused substitute in Denmark’s 2-2 draw with Belarus in FIFA World Cup qualifying.

The Danes now head to Glasgow to face Scotland in their final group game knowing a point would hold off their opponents to retain top spot and their place in next summer’s finals.

Scotland, meanwhile, missed the opportunity to move into pole position, falling to a 3-2 defeat in Greece.

The damage was done with three goals prior to Tasos Bakasetas’ red card, with Ben Doak’s and Ryan Christie’s strikes proving not enough to salvage a point.

Andy Irving did not come off the bench for Scotland, who can still book a direct route to North America by defeating Denmark on Tuesday. They are already assured of a play-off place.

Airidas Golambeckis in action for England U19s against Latvia

Airidas Golambeckis played the final 12 minutes of England U19s’ thumping 7-0 victory over Latvia in UEFA U19 European Championship qualifying.

A hat-trick by Chelsea’s Jesse Derry headlined the Young Lions’ demolition job, with four of the seven goals coming before the break.

Following victory against Lithuania in the first of their three games, Golambeckis’ side have already secured their passage to the final Elite Round of qualifying with Tuesday’s game against Scotland to spare.

For Scotland U19s, Josh Landers came off the bench against Lithuania, but was unable to prevent his team from falling to a 2-1 defeat.

Scotland now need to defeat England to give themselves a shot of joining them in the next phase.

In qualifying for the same tournament Rayan Oyebade was a starter in Greece U19s’ 8-0 win against Liechtenstein.

Oyebade’s second international appearance was also a second win, and they are through to the Elite Round with the luxury of a game to go – in their case against Turkey.

Also through to the Elite Round are Callum Leacock’s Northern Ireland U19s, who defeated Azerbaijan 1-0 in Malta.

Defender Leacock started the Group 13 encounter, which saw Northern Ireland build upon their opening victory against the hosts.

Tuesday’s meeting with Czech Republic is now largely academic, although a point would secure top spot.

Lanre Awesu’s England U17 secured their passage to the last 16 of the FIFA U-17 World Cup with a 2-0 victory over South Korea in Qatar.

The Hammers goalkeeper was an unused substitute as an own goal, plus Reigan Heskey’s strike settled the round of 32 clash.
