Starting XI | Six Hammers to make full debuts at The Valley

Charlton Athletic v West Ham United women's team
Subway® Women's League Cup, Group C, The Valley, Wednesday 24 September 2025, 7pm BST

Rehanne Skinner has handed six full debuts in her starting XI for West Ham United women’s team’s trip to Charlton Athletic in the Subway® Women's League Cup on Wednesday night.

The Hammers will begin their cup campaign at The Valley, having got to the semi-finals of the competition last term after securing victories against Portsmouth, London City Lionesses, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.

This season, placed in Group C, Skinner’s side will again face Pompey and the Saints, as well as the Addicks and fellow Barclays Women’s Super League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion.

Skinner has made ten changes to the side that was defeated by the Seagulls on Sunday, with midfielder Anna Csiki the only player to keep her place in the line-up.

Our manager has also given out six first competitive starts to defenders Yu Endo, Selin Cemal and Inès Belloumou, midfielder Sarah Brasero and forwards Leila Wandeler and Ffion Morgan.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Megan Walsh, defender Amber Tysiak, midfielder Halle Houssein and forward Seraina Piubel all return to the side, whilst Katie O'Hanlon is named amongst the substitutes.

In the absence of captain Katrina Gorry and vice-captain Shelina Zadorsky from the matchday squad, Tysiak will don the armband from the start for the first time in south-east London.

Starting XI

So, Walsh will start in between the sticks after she started our first home Barclays Women’s Super League game of the season against Arsenal earlier in September.

The Republic of Ireland international will be supported by a defence consisting of summer signing Endo, Tysiak, Cemal and Belloumou.

The midfield at The Valley will contain Houssein, making her first appearance of the season, Brasero, who made her Hammers debut last time out against Brighton, and Csiki, with an interchangeable front three of Wandeler, Morgan and Piubel in front of them.

Skinner has nine substitutes to turn to: goalkeeper O’Hanlon, defenders Eva Nyström, Anouk Denton and Verena Hanshaw, midfielder Oona Siren, and forwards Manuela Paví, Shekiera Martinez, Viviane Asseyi and Emily Taylor-Brown.

Midfielder Keira Flannery, who is currently on loan at Charlton for the season, is ineligible to play.
