West Ham United women’s team manager Rehanne Skinner has recalled Verena Hanshaw to the starting XI for our Barclays Women’s Super League test against Everton on Sunday.
Buoyed by a magic 5-0 success at home to Southampton in the Subway Women’s League Cup in midweek, the Hammers will look to follow up the win with another positive performance and result at Chigwell Construction Stadium.
Austria international Hanshaw’s inclusion in the starting line-up is the only change to the XI from our draw with Leicester City last time out in the WSL. The No29 comes in for Ffion Morgan, who is among this afternoon’s substitutes.
Elsewhere, defender Eva Nyström, who picked up an injury against the Saints on Wednesday night, is not in the matchday squad and is replaced on the bench by Selin Cemal, while Leila Wandeler returns to the squad having missed the cup success with a knock.
So, Kinga Szemik starts in between the sticks having kept a clean sheet the last time we faced the Toffees in Dagenham, in a 2-0 win in January.
Hanshaw, whose debut for the east Londoners came in that victory, will likely slot in at left wing-back, alongside Shelina Zadorsky, Amber Tysiak, Yu Endo and Anouk Denton in defence.
Captain Katrina Gorry and Oona Siren are the midfield pairing to face Everton, while Viviane Asseyi, Riko Ueki and Shekiera Martinez make up the attack.
Asseyi and Martinez, who both bagged blistering braces against the Saints, both found the net with first-half goals in the January victory over Everton, which was the No19’s first goal for the Club.
Alongside Cemal, Morgan and Wandeler, Skinner has seven other substitutes to turn to in east London: goalkeeper Megan Walsh, defender Inès Belloumou, midfielders Anna Csiki, Sarah Brasero and Halle Houssein, and forward Manuela Paví.
As Skinner confirmed in her press conference, Seraina Piubel is still coming back into training, but is not fit enough to make today's squad.
