Pre-Season Match, Sunday 10 August 2025, 3pm CEST (2pm BST)

West Ham United women’s team’s pre-season training camp in Prague will conclude with a match against 1. Liga Women outfit Sparta Prague on Sunday 10 August.

The Hammers have travelled to the capital of the Czech Republic - home to many special memories for West Ham supporters - for a four-day training camp, where they will be put through their paces as preparations step up for the 2025/26 campaign.

The trip will provide an opportunity for new arrivals Sarah Brasero, Ffion Morgan and Yu Endo to further embed themselves into Rehanne Skinner’s squad, as well as a chance for the manager to see her new signings in action ahead of the upcoming Barclays Women’s Super League season.

With a record 21 league titles to their name, Sunday’s opponents will prove a strong test for Skinner’s team. Here’s everything you need to know about our pre-season friendly in Prague…

Opposition…

As mentioned, Sparta Prague have been the dominant force in 1. Liga Women, winning a record 21 titles since the league’s formation in 1993. However, rivals Slavia Prague pipped them to the title by three points last term, so they will be out to reclaim top spot this season.

And Sparta will not be taking this friendly lightly, as their 2025/26 campaign gets underway on Saturday 16 August before an all-important UEFA Women’s Champions League second-round qualification semi-final against Nordsjælland at the end of the month. Preparation will be key for the hosts.

Last term, in their first season as a professional outfit, Sparta Prague were beaten 2-0 away at Paris FC in the final of the first round of Women's Champions League qualification. Their best record in the tournament came in 2006/07, then known as the UEFA Women’s Cup, when they reached the quarter-finals of the competition.

Captain of Sparta Prague is Czech Republic international Eva Bartoňová, who took over skipper duties following the departure of Petra Bertholdová in 2024. An experienced head, Bartoňová is currently in her second spell at the club, having ended a nine-year stay in 2016 to move to rivals Slavia before returning to Sparta in 2021 after a spell at Inter Milan.

The defender, who wears No9, was on target in Sparta's most recent friendly against RB Leipzig, but her side fell to a 2-1 defeat.

The Salzburg-born 50-year-old's coaching journey started in 2009 at Red Bull Salzburg’s academy. He later worked at Rapid Wien’s academy before becoming director of youth development at Basel in 2021.
