Moore: Joining West Ham is one of the best things I've done

It has been an enjoyable first season for Sean Moore at West Ham United, with the Republic of Ireland U19 winger labelling his move to east London last June as ‘one of the best things he has ever done’.

The tricky winger, comfortable at wing-back too, joined from Cliftonville, where his performances saw him named in the NIFL Premiership Team of the Year.

Minutes have been harder to come by for the young Hammer this season, but Moore has stuck to his task, showed his quality and worked his way into the U21 starting XI in recent months.

Following a first Premier League 2 start in a 5-1 win against Crystal Palace in December, Moore continued a good run of form into 2024, as his first PL2 goal ended Tottenham Hotspur U21s’ perfect start to their league campaign.

With his versatility helping, Moore then played his part in recent wins over Derby County, Norwich City and Brighton & Hove Albion as the U21s secured a home tie in the PL2 Play-Offs – a knockout competition between the top 16 in the Premier League 2 to decide the development league’s 2023/24 victors.

I have been loving it at West Ham and moving here has been one of the best decisions I have ever made!

Speaking to whufc.com ahead of the U21s’ next PL2 fixture at home to Leicester City on Friday 26 April, the 19-year-old hopes the Hammers can turn this season into a winning one and is more than ready to play his part…

I think I needed this run of starts, so I am really happy to have started the last few games.

It has been a good run of games as well for the U21s. Yes, we lost against PSV [in the Premier League International Cup semi-finals], which we were disappointed about, but there have been a good couple of wins around that match against Derby, Brighton and Norwich.

Wing-back is a good position and I have played there before for Cliftonville.

It is something I am used to and it’s a position I am playing in a bit more for West Ham because of the injuries we have to players in the squad at the moment.

I am enjoying playing the system [a back five] we play in for the U21s at the moment.

I think it is helping us get some really good results this year. Steve [Potts] and Gerard [Prenderville] have us set up tactically right and it is about us delivering their plan, which we have managed to do a fair bit this season.

It’s good that we have secured second place in Premier League 2, and we are looking forward to the knockouts now.

We have one more game before the Play-Offs, and hopefully we can go far in the Play-Offs because we want to win the league.

I have been loving it at West Ham and moving here has been one of the best decisions I have ever made, to be honest!

Coming here, meeting this group of lads and the coaches, it's been great for me and my game. I have settled in really well and now it has been good to get a nice run of matches under my belt too!
