Match Officials confirmed for Everton away fixture

Everton v West Ham United
Premier League, Hill Dickinson Stadium, Monday 29 September 2025, 8pm BST

Referee: Sam Barrott
Assistant Referees: Constantine Hatzidakis and Wade Smith
Fourth Official: Tony Harrington
VAR: Paul Tierney
Assistant VAR: Tim Robinson

Sam Barrott has been confirmed as the referee for West Ham United’s Premier League fixture at Everton on Monday evening.

A former Halifax Town youth player, who took up refereeing as a teenager after sustaining an injury, Barrott worked his way up the ranks and made the step up to the EFL from the National League list of officials at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

He was promoted to Professional Game Match Officials Limited's (PGMOL) Select Group 2 ahead of 2023/24, not long before he took charge of a Premier League match for the first time in October 2023.

Monday’s historic first visit to Hill Dickinson Stadium will be Barrott’s fifth West Ham appointment.

His first was the come-from-behind 2-1 Premier League win at Burnley in November 2023, when the Irons scored two late goals to grab victory.

He also refereed a goalless home draw with Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2024, a 3-0 home defeat by Chelsea in September last year and the 2-1 home loss to Nottingham Forest in May.

Barrott oversaw Oxford United's EFL League One Play-Off final win over Bolton Wanderers in May 2024 and was then duly promoted to Select Group 1 ahead of 2024/25. He was also promoted to the international lists of FIFA and UEFA in December 2024.

He will be assisted on Monday evening by Constantine Hatzidakis and Wade Smith.

Kent-based Hatzidakis is a veteran of 262 Premier League appointments as an assistant referee, while he has also run the line nearly 100 times in the EFL, FA Cup and EFL Cup, and worked in international and UEFA club competitions.

Smith reached 100 Premier League matches as an assistant referee last weekend, when he worked the 1-1 draw between Sunderland and Aston Villa.

He ran the line for Barrott in the aforementioned West Ham versus Nottingham Forest fixture in May this year and has also assisted six other Hammers Premier League games, including a goalless home draw with Monday’s hosts Everton at London Stadium in November 2024.

The fourth official will be Tony Harrington, who refereed last weekend’s home defeat by Crystal Palace. Harrington refereed West Ham twice last season, too. The first was the opening-day home fixture against Aston Villa last August, and the second a 1-0 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers on 1 April this year.

In all, Hartlepool-based Harrington has refereed 39 Premier League matches, in addition to 199 in the EFL Championship.

Video Assistant Referee duties will be carried out by Lancastrian Paul Tierney. The 44-year-old has been a VAR for Premier League, international and UEFA competition matches, including nine involving West Ham.

Wigan-born Tierney will be assisted by Tim Robinson, who refereed our final-day win at Ipswich Town in May this year.

Previously, Robinson refereed our draws at Fulham and home to AFC Bournemouth last season, and took charge of Sheffield Wednesday’s EFL League One Play-Off final win over Barnsley in 2023.
