Łukasz Fabiański signs contract extension with West Ham United

West Ham United are pleased to confirm that Łukasz Fabiański has signed a contract extension until the summer of 2023, with an option to extend for a further year.

The goalkeeper has extended his stay in east London to a fifth season, adding huge experience and leadership to David Moyes’ squad as the Hammers prepare to compete in four competitions for the second consecutive year.

An outstanding professional, Fabiański has made 138 appearances since arriving at London Stadium in 2018, winning the Hammer of the Year award in 2019, helping the Hammers stay up in 2020 and playing a big part in West Ham’s qualification for European football in each of the previous two seasons.

A popular and respected member of the squad, the former Poland international is looking forward to being part of West Ham’s continuing growth and development, on and off the pitch.

“I’m obviously pleased and very happy that I can stay for one more year, so I’m excited about it, for sure,” smiled Fabiański, who shared his fascinating Backstory with West Ham TV earlier this year. “The way the Club has developed and started to reach its potential, it’s been really nice to be part of it.

“I can see how much attention this Club draws when it comes to interacting with the fans or the way it’s being presented in the media.

“I think there's a lot of interest into the Club, so it feels like this Club is one of the bigger ones in the country, so I'm just honoured and proud to be part of this Club for a few years now.”

A keen observer of the game, the 37-year-old believes there is no coincidence that West Ham have thrived under the experienced management of Moyes and his staff, and believes the certainty that surrounds the Club at present bodes well for its future.

“If you want to develop as a team and as a Club, I think consistency is the main thing, actually, because you always want to take your time to make the right, correct decisions, and I think that is always what helps you to perform well out there on the on the pitch,” the goalkeeper continued. “And I think, with the way the Club has been run in the past few years, I think that’s what helped us to be where we are at this present time.”

After achieving sixth and seventh-place Premier League finishes and reaching the UEFA Europa League semi-finals in recent seasons, interest in West Ham is arguably at an all-time high, with the result being a rise in the capacity of London Stadium to a record 62,500 this coming season.

Fabiański, as someone who first faced the Hammers as an opposition player, and latterly as the Club’s own popular goalkeeper, says the synergy between squad and supporters has been vital to the Irons’ rise and will remain vital to its ambition to continue challenging for trophies and top-six Premier League finishes.

“It obviously all starts with us performing well out there on the on the pitch and being able to play in Europe this season as well really helps, so obviously we’ll be very happy to play in front of more people,” he confirmed.

“So hopefully this tendency will continue to improve not only when it comes to the capacity of the stadium, but for all the fans around the world as well.”

Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Łukasz on signing his contract extension and is looking forward to seeing him in action again this season.
