Nathan Trott

Loan Watch: Inspired Trott helps Vejle to vital victory

A number of West Ham United loanees were in action across the weekend, albeit with mixed results…

There was a win for Nathan Trott, who helped Vejle BK pick up their third Danish Superliga victory of the season on Sunday afternoon.

The goalkeeper kept his second clean sheet in the Superliga as Vejle beat Lyngby 1-0 thanks to top scorer German Onugkha’s strike at Vejle Stadium.

Trott himself made a superb double save with 17 minutes remaining to secure an important win, clearing a cross, before responding well to flick the rebound over the crossbar.

Vejle remain eleventh in the Superliga table, with 12 points from their first 15 games. However, after losing their opening six matches after winning promotion last season, the Jutland-based team have staged a recovery to take 12 points from the last nine matches to climb off the bottom.

The Superliga splits in half after 22 rounds, with the bottom six clubs then contesting an eight-match relegation round in the spring. In the meantime, a winter break begins in early December and ends in mid-February.

Flynn Downes playing on loan at Southampton

Flynn Downes also celebrated a victory as Southampton beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1 in the EFL Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Downes started the fixture and played for 67 minutes, picking up a yellow card, as the Saints recorded their ninth league win of the season.

Adam Armstrong struck the winner at St Mary’s Stadium after Will Smallbone’s opener had been cancelled out by Kyle Bartley.

Unbeaten in eight matches, Southampton are now fourth in the EFL Championship table, with nine points between themselves and the automatic promotion places.

Elsewhere, Krisztián Hegyi and Kamarai Swywer were both unused substitutes as Stevenage beat Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 in EFL League One and Crawley Town beat Accrington Stanley 3-1 in EFL League Two.

Archie Woods and Mason Terry saw their respective fixtures postponed, while Keenan Appiah-Forson did not feature as Dagenham & Redbridge fell to a 2-1 defeat by Solihull Moors.
