Loan Watch | Two Hammers face off in EFL League One

Five of West Ham United's loanees saw action over a busy weekend across the top five divisions of English football and in Europe...

Two West Ham United teammates went head-to-head in EFL League One action on Saturday, with Michael Forbes' Northampton Town hosting Gideon Kodua's Luton Town.

It was Kodua’s side who came out on top at Sixfields Stadium, with a 1-0 win - the first under new boss and former Hammer Jack Wilshere - courtesy of Lamine Fanne’s late goal.

Kodua played the first 73 minutes on the left flank, while Forbes played the full 90 minutes.

Young goalkeeper Finlay Herrick continued to earn vital minutes in between the sticks with Boreham Wood, but the Enterprise National League high-flyers fell to defeat for the first time in 15 league games at Forest Green Rovers.

Jili Buyabu opened the scoring for the hosts after 36 minutes before Matt Rush restored parity after the break from close range.

But Forest Green were handed the chance to retake the lead after 75 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for handball, and Harvey Bunker slotted in from 12 yards to secure a 2-1 triumph and all three points.

In the EFL Championship, Kaelan Casey featured as a late substitute as Swansea City defeated Norwich City 2-1.

Casey has now made six appearances for the Swans, tasting defeat on just one occasion, back on 9 August. The Welsh outfit are currently 13th in the second-tier table, just three points below the top six.

Meanwhile, Academy of Football defenders Regan Clayton and Junior Robinson were unused substitutes for Braintree Town and Livingston respectively.

Braintree drew 0-0 with Altrincham at home in the National League, while Livingston fell to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.

Finally, in Italy's Serie A, Maxwel Cornet was introduced as a late substitute in Genoa’s 2-1 defeat away at Torino FC, where Guillermo Maripán’s stoppage-time winner completed a come-from-behind victory at Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
