Camila Sáez's Chile missed out on a semi-final spot at the Copa América Femenina after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Uruguay in their final Group A game on Thursday night.
Chile went into the contest needing a point to secure a top-two placing, but despite having more shots and possession than their opponents, they were unable to force the result.
A 40th-minute penalty by Palema González gave Uruguay the edge, before a second-half brace by Wendy Carballo made sure of victory and lifted Uruguay above Chile in the final standings.
Sáez started at centre-back, as Chile ended the four-game group phase having won two and lost two of their contests.
Their Copa América campaign is not yet over, however, as they will contest a fifth-place match in Quito on Monday.
With Group B's final matches to be contested on Friday, that could be against Colombia, Venezuela or Paraguay.
