Hammers defender Dinos Mavropanos played all 90 minutes for Greece in their FIFA World Cup European Group C qualifier against Mads Hermansen’s Denmark on Sunday evening.
At Parken, Copenhagen, the hosts ran out 3-1 winners to remain at the top of the table, as they lead second-place Scotland on goal difference.
Despite Christos Tzolis’ strike on 63 minutes, the damage was done in the first half as goals from Rasmus Højlund, Joachim Andersen and Mikkel Damsgaard gave Denmark an unassailable lead.
Goalkeeper Hermansen was an unused substitute for Brian Riemer’s side.
Meanwhile, Tomáš Souček played all 90 minutes of Czechia’s Group L clash with Faroe Islands at Tórsvøllur on Sunday evening.
Unfortunately for our No28, his side fell to a 2-1 defeat. Martin Agnarsson’s goal nine minutes from time secured the hosts the three points, three minutes after substitute Adam Karabec looked like he had rescued a draw for Ivan Hašek’s team.
With one match remaining, the defeat leaves Czechia second in the standings and three points behind top-of-the-table Croatia, but the leaders have a 15-better goal difference and a game in hand.
Elsewhere, young goalkeeper Lanre Awesu started for England U18s in their friendly with France at St George’s Park on Sunday afternoon.
The shot-stopper, who made his international debut at U17s level last season, played the first 45 minutes of the game before being substituted at half-time, as manager Neil Ryan made a host of changes.
Awesu’s Young Lions secured a 2-2 draw thanks to goals from Igor Tyjon and Reigan Heskey.
