Internationals | Martinez earns first call-up to senior Germany squad

West Ham United women's team forward Shekiera Martinez has been named in the senior Germany squad for the first time, for two crucial UEFA Women’s Nations League semi-final clashes against France.

Having been a regular for her country’s youth teams throughout her career so far, her maiden call-up to the top level of international football represents the latest in a long list of achievements for Martinez since she made her Hammers debut in January, which includes winning two Barclays Women’s Super League Player of the Month awards, the Club’s Young Player and Goal of the Season awards, and the 2024/25 WSL Rising Star award.

The 24-year-old, who scored ten goals in 12 league matches for the Irons in 2024/25 after spending the first half of last season on loan at SC Freiburg, has featured in each of the eight games in all competitions so far this term, netting against Charlton Athletic and Brighton & Hove Albion in the Subway® Women’s League Cup.

Such form has prompted Head Coach Christian Wück to offer her a chance within Germany’s first-team set-up, as the two-time world champions look to book their place in the Nations League showpiece.

Bronze medallists in the 2024 running of the competition, Germany earned their spot in the 2025 Nations League Finals by finishing top of Group A1, boasting five wins and one draw from their six games.

They are now set to go head-to-head with Group A2 winners France over two legs in the last four, with the sides set to meet first at the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Düsseldorf at 4.45pm BST on Friday 24 October, before reconvening at the Stade Michel-d'Ornano in Caen at 8.10pm GMT on Tuesday 28 October.

The winners will qualify for the Nations League final, where they will meet either Sweden or reigning world champions Spain during the next international window later this year.
