Internationals | Álvarez named in final Mexico Gold Cup squad

Edson Álvarez is in line to lead Mexico's bid for 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup glory after being included in boss Javier Aguirre's final 26-man squad for the tournament in Canada and the USA.

The 27-year-old, who made 31 appearances for the Hammers during the domestic 2024/25 season, and currently boasts 85 international caps, had been named in a preliminary roster and then a 35-man training squad ahead of Wednesday's deadline for final submissions.

It is now full steam ahead for Álvarez and his El Tri teammates as they look build on their CONCACAF Nations League triumph in March, and defend their Gold Cup crown following their victory over Panama in the 2023 final.

Mexico will warm up for the competition with US-based friendlies against Switzerland (Saturday 7 June, 9pm BST) and Türkiye (Wednesday 11 June, 1.30am BST), before they kickstart their Group A campaign against the Dominican Republic at 3.15am BST on Sunday 15 June.

Aguirre's men will then look to secure their spot in the knockouts when they contest further group games against Suriname (Thursday 19 June, 3am BST) and Costa Rica (Monday 23 June, 3am BST).
