Hayashi nominated for WSL Player of the Month award

West Ham United Women midfielder Honoka Hayashi has been named on the shortlist for the Barclays Women’s Super League February Player of the Month award.

The nomination comes at the end of a month when the Hammers created history, defeating Arsenal 2-1 to claim a first ever WSL win over the Gunners, before a hard-fought 2-0 defeat at Everton.

Hayashi put in a commanding midfield display against Arsenal, crucially blocking Vivianne Miedema’s goal-bound effort to keep the score level in the first half. She then proved her worth against Everton, helping keep the home side out until she was substituted with ten minutes to go, with the Merseysiders then scoring twice.

The 25-year-old, who is bidding to win the accolade for the very first time, is up against fellow nominees Khiara Keating (Manchester City), Yuka Momiki (Leicester City), Jordan Nobbs (Aston Villa), Amalie Thestrup (Bristol City) and Leila Ouahabi (Manchester City).

The online poll is now open and you can vote for Hayashi HEREVoting will close at 10am on Monday 26 February.
