Emma Snerle: I'm excited to get started here at West Ham United Women

Emma Snerle was announced as West Ham United Women’s first signing of the January transfer window last week.

The 20-year-old midfielder is making the move to England and the Barclays FA Women’s Super League having spent her developing years at Fortuna Hjørring in her native Denmark.

After scoring 13 goals in 14 games for the North Jutlandic Island based outfit, Snerle decided that it was now the right time to make the move and try her hand in England.

“I'm just happy and excited to get started,” Snerle told West Ham TV. “It's a big league,  a big club, and I'm just really excited to get started.

“Everybody is so nice and welcoming, and we've been training on the pitch and doing some testing and everything is good. The coaches are nice and I’m just really happy to be here.”

Since making her Hjørring first team debut in 2017, Snerle has made 68 starts, scoring 30 times, fantastic numbers for somebody of her age.

And Snerle is hoping that it won’t take her long to adapt to a new league, and a new style of play here in east London.

“I'm an attacking midfielder, I like to be creative and make my teammates look good. I also want to score goals myself, of course.

“I'm just hoping from the beginning to get some minutes and get to know the girls, get to know the style of play. I want to win games with this team.”

Snerle has also played UEFA Champions League football with her previous employers, making three appearances in the competition this season, scoring once.

The midfielder is looking forward to embracing the challenge of a new culture, as she makes the move away from Denmark for the first time in her career.

And with Tameka Yallop and Yui Hasegawa away with Australia and Japan respectively at the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup until the middle of February, there could be an opening for Snerle to step right into the first team, which could begin with the trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday 16 January.

“It's a big challenge for me outside the pitch as well, moving to a new country for the first time, but I'm really looking forward to that challenge. I don’t think it’s going to be a problem because the girls have been so nice.

“I'm also sure that I can learn from these players on this team. I'll grow and the things I've tried before will for sure, help me grow even more," she said.
