Bowen: This was a really good win for us

Jarrod Bowen took immense pride in the manner of West Ham United’s Premier League win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Irons continued a fine week at London Stadium with a 3-0 romp against Gary O’Neil’s Wolves, with Bowen adding a cool third in the second half after Mohammed Kudus’ expertly-taken brace in the first half.

The three goals and the three points means the Hammers have lost just one game in nine matches – away to Fulham last weekend – and Bowen admitted the side took a chance to reflect following that defeat to the Cottagers.

“We took a good look at ourselves,” he said. “Yes, we beat Tottenham Hotspur on the Thursday night but then we turned up at Fulham and got done by five. This week, we beat Freiburg and we had to apply ourselves in a certain way on Thursday, and I think we did that today.

“We scored three really good goals. It was an exciting game to play in and be a part of. Three points and three goals makes a really good win for us.”

Brazilian playmaker Lucas Paquetá was also superb in Sunday’s win, laying on all three assists for Kudus and Bowen to tuck away, and the No20 is relishing playing alongside the No10 and Ghana international.

The England forward is enjoying the understanding the trio have built in the Claret and Blue attack.

“We’re playing with freedom; me, Mo and Lucas,” Bowen continued. “We’ve got a really good understanding and there were times when Mo was up front and I was out on the wing. There were times when it was the other way around but I think that is the quality that the three of us have.

“We have that flexibility and it’s the same on the training pitch. We love playing together.”

With back-to-back wins coming across the UEFA Europa League and Premier League, attention quickly turns to Wednesday evening’s Carabao Cup quarter-final at Liverpool.

With Manchester United visiting London Stadium next Saturday in the Premier League too, Bowen is relishing the busy festive schedule.

“It’s an exciting time. As a player, you want to be in as many competitions as possible,” Bowen added. “We’ve got a chance now on Wednesday night to get a place in the Carabao Cup semi-final, and then we play Manchester United on Saturday too. That will be another tasty game and there’s a lot to look forward to.

“We’re glad we got the win today. It moves us up the table and it makes things interesting over the Christmas period.”
