West Ham United and Barratt London are proud to announce the reopening of the Memorial Garden at the site of our former home, the Boleyn Ground.
The Memorial Garden opens to the public on Thursday August following a series of private visits last month for families and friends of supporters that are lovingly remembered at the site.
The design for the new Memorial Garden has been carefully and respectfully considered using feedback from family members, with West Ham United and Barratt London working closely on the design principles throughout the process.
The Memorial Garden features a special plaque honouring the name, year of birth and year of passing of all those supporters remembered there, as well as a Memorial Capsule containing special items and plaques dedicated to their memory.
The trees and soil remain preserved, with benches integrated to provide a special place of reflection for families.
Jake Heath, Head of Supporter Services at West Ham United, said: “This is a poignant moment for everyone connected with West Ham United as the Boleyn Ground Memorial Garden opens to the public.
“This is a special place for our Club and it is an honour to pay tribute and remember supporters who are no longer with us. For many years, the Club has been in direct communication with families, providing updates and offering our support, so this is an emotional day for all of us.”
Family member and supporter Victor Gray said: “My son left us six years ago, and he is in the garden now. We never missed a game together for 22 years, and West Ham was his favourite place in the world. For us, this is a resting place. Where he is now and the way this has been looked after by the Club, I can never thank them enough.
Family member and supporter Sean Martin said: “My Dad used to come here on a weekly basis with myself when West Ham were at home from the early 70s up to when he passed away in 2013 and this brings so many happy memories. He would have been so happy to be here; he loved West Ham.”
