On This Day: Harewood and Zamora strike in Play-Off semi-final

It may not have felt like it at full-time, but West Ham United took a step back towards the Premier League when they drew 2-2 with Ipswich Town on this day in 2005.

The Hammers were rewarded for dominating the early stages of this Championship Play-Off semi-final at the Boleyn Ground when Marlon Harewood and Bobby Zamora both scored inside the opening 13 minutes.

However, Jimmy Walker’s own-goal on the stroke of half-time gave the Tractor Boys hope, before Finland international Shefki Kuqi equalised 16 minutes from the end to leave the Irons’ promotion hopes hanging in the balance.

Thankfully, Zamora scored twice in the return leg at Portman Road to send West Ham through to the final, where he struck again to see off Preston North End and secure Alan Pardew’s team a place back in the top flight.
