Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with Basset & Gold...
On this day in history 30 years ago, West Ham United midfielder Martin 'Mad Dog' Allen settled a fiercely-fought contest against Middlesbrough on Tyneside.
The popular midfielder, who had only joined the Hammers the previous summer, was quickest to react when Julian Dicks' long-range piledriver was parried out by Stephen Pears.
Having made no mistake with the finish, Allen wheeled away to celebrate in front of the travelling supporters, a crucial goal which granted Club legend Billy Bonds his first win as West Ham United manager.
Allen and the Irons went on to finish seventh that season and enjoy a run to the League Cup semi-finals, before winning promotion to the top-flight under Bonds the following campaign.
