Declan Rice cannot wait to play in front of a bigger, louder Claret and Blue Army at London Stadium.

West Ham United will soon be able to increase the matchday capacity at their Stratford home to 60,000 – up from the current 57,000 – after reaching agreement with London Stadium landlords E20 to take the first step towards London Stadium becoming the largest Premier League ground in London, with a capacity of 66,000.

And fans’ favourite Rice welcomed the news, pointing to the positive contribution Hammers supporters make to the players’ performance on the pitch with the outstanding atmosphere they create at every home match.

“It is fantastic news that the London Stadium capacity is increasing to 60,000 – it can only be a good thing to have more West Ham supporters cheering us on,” said the teenager, who has appeared 18 times at London Stadium since breaking into the first team at the start of last season.

“There is no better feeling than hearing our fans celebrate a goal or a victory. The noise when we beat Manchester United recently was like nothing I have heard before – and we all want more experiences like that.

“It will be even greater with thousands more of our fans cheering us on, and for the players it provides a massive inspiration. We are lucky to have such magnificent support and everyone is determined to repay them with success on the pitch.”
