Name: Paul Konchesky
Born: Barking, 15 May 1981
Clubs: Charlton Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur (loan), West Ham United, Fulham, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest (loan), Leicester City
International: England - two caps, no goals

Former Hammers left back Paul Konchesky was born in Barking on this day 34 years ago.

He will be best remembered by West Ham fans for his spectacular goal against Liverpool in the 2006 FA Cup final. That strike gave the Hammers a 3-2 lead, although the Reds would go on to win on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

Konchesky played 70 games for the Club in a spell which lasted from July 2005 to July 2007, and found the net on one other occasion - in a 2-0 win over Sunderland in February 2006.

He started off at Charlton Athletic, from whom he joined the Hammers, via a 2003 loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur. After leaving the Boleyn Ground, he turned out for Fulham and Liverpool, and had a loan spell at Nottingham Forest prior to signing for Leicester City in summer 2011.

This season he has made 29 appearances for the Foxes, helping them out of the relegation zone after they looked set for a return to the Championship. He scored the winner against Aston Villa in January, securing a vital three points.

Classic match

Ipswich Town 1-0 West Ham United
Division One Play-Off semi-final first leg
15 May 2004

The Hammers were paired with Ipswich Town in the Division One Play-Offs in 2004 having finished fourth in the table with 74 points.

Ipswich were a place behind, so played the first leg at home and secured a slender advantage to take to the Boleyn Ground.

A Darren Bent header early in the second half was the difference, but West Ham had chances and were unfortunate not to come away with anything to show for their efforts.

It was not to matter, however, as Alan Pardew's side triumphed 2-0 at home to set up a final against Crystal Palace, which the south Londoners won by a slender 1-0 margin.
