The Hammers consolidated a position in the top half of the Premier League table with this thumping victory over Coventry City 15 years ago - their third in a row to bounce back from a humbling 7-1 loss at Manchester United earlier in the month.
Harry Redknapp's men went some way to erasing the damage of that defeat by swatting poor travellers Coventry aside with consumate ease.
The Sky Blues failed to win a single away game that season, and it was easy to see why as the Hammers moved into a seventh minute lead through Michael Carrick, who was finding the net for the first time in claret and blue.
It was soon 2-0, as Chilean defender Javier Margas notched his only goal of the season with 14 minutes on the clock.
The Hammers had to wait until the second period to take the game fully away from the visitors in front of a 24,719 Boleyn Ground crowd, but that they did with a display of some power.
Paolo Di Canio weighed in with two goals, before the rout was completed by Frederic Kanoute's 83rd minute strike. West Ham went on to claim an ninth place finish, while Coventry were further back in 14th.
