Final score - West Ham United 2-0 Barnsley

The final whistle goes and well done the young Hammers. They will take their place in tomorrow's fourth-round draw but Barnsley - and in particular Luke Steele - can take lots of credit for their performance.

90mins - GOAL! - Frederic Piquionne breaks away and smashes in from the edge of the area. That will wrap things up but Barnsley had crashed a shot against the bar just seconds before. Cruel cup luck for the Tykes, there.

90mins - We are into the final minute of the contest and Edgar nearly gets a dream introduction. Parker drives forward before slipping in Edgar. The youngster's shot is off target though.

90mins - That was Hines last contribution. He is off to be replaced by young forward Anthony Edgar for his first appearance of the season. In fact, the Academy youngster has not figured in the first team since the FA Cup third round last year.

90mins - Steele has been terrific today and he makes a double save from Barrera and Hines to underline the fact. What a performance from the Barnsley No1.

90mins - The fourth official shows we will play three added minutes. The London City Metals man of the match is Mark Noble.

90mins - We are into the last minute of normal time and it looks like the Hammers are going to hang on. Parker is taking a lot of the pressure off his team.

86 mins - Barrera runs forward and plays the ball around Hill for Piquionne. He checks and passes back to the winger, whose cross is cleared by a combination of Shackell and Foster.

84 mins - Instant impact! Noble crosses and Piquionne wins the header, but it loops harmlessly up into the air and is caught by Steele.

83 mins - Barrera wins a free-kick about ten yards outside the penalty area. The break in play gives the manager a chance to replace Nouble with Piquionne. The youngster had a bright first half but has maybe got a bit tired since the break.

82 mins - West Ham fashion their first shooting chance in a fair while. Hines runs at the Barnsley defence before passing right to Noble, but his shot is blocked and loops into the air before Foster heads clear.

80 mins - Left-back Hill sends over a diagonal cross from deep and O'Connor rises high with Reid, but the No2 does enough to hold off the Scotland striker and the ball bounces harmlessly behind for a goal kick.

77 mins - Barnsley play their final card, bringing on Hugo Colace for Arismendi in midfield.

76 mins - Obinna is replaced by Parker. The crowd give the No8 a rousing reception.

76 mins - Hammill crosses and Reid heads behind for a corner. It's taken quickly and the ball is worked to Hammill - who else? - whose cross is too high and goes behind for a goal kick at the far post.

75 mins - Grant is obviously concerned because Parker is stripping off down on the bench. On the pitch, Barrera gives away a free-kick wide on the left outside the penalty area. Chance for Hammill to cross...

73 mins - It's a bit more end to end now. First, O'Connor sees his shot charged down by Reid, then Obinna holds the ball up for a while before giving it away.

70 mins - Great chance for Nouble, who breaks the offside trap and is in behind the Barnsley defence. Steele comes to meet him and Nouble scuffs his shot past the goalkeeper. It is rolling slowly towards the goal, but Hassell has plenty of time to run back and collect the ball inside the six-yard box.

69 mins - Barnsley make their second change, bringing on Jim O'Brien for Kieran Trippier. O'Brien is a winger, whereas Trippier is a full-back by trade, so that's an attacking move by Mark Robins.

67 mins - Scott Parker is warming up on the touchline. I doubt very much that Avram Grant wants to use his No8, but the game is just drifting a bit at present.

66 mins - Barrera is fouled by Hill on halfway. Tomkins trots forward for the free-kick but Faubert's delivery does not even reach the penalty area.

64 mins - Elsewhere, Premier League sides West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland are both losing to lower-league opposition. Here, West Ham need to up their game a bit as Barnsley have probably shaded it since the interval.

61 mins - Barrera wins a free-kick from Hill. When Noble takes the set play quickly, though, the Mexican is offside.

60 mins - Barnsley are having a good spell here. A throw on the right is headed clear to Arismendi, who controls on his thigh before volleying over the top from 25 yards.

58 mins - Hammill is showing why a host of Premier League clubs are looking at him as he skips past Faubert and crosses dangerously, but there is nobody in the box to apply a finish.

56 mins - Hammill sends over a free-kick from the left and Tomkins heads clear. Barnsley come again and Tomkins slides in on Hammill inside the box. Barnsley want a penalty and it looks like they might have a case, but referee Swarbrick gives nothing. West Ham clear.

56 mins - Barnsley make their first change of the afternoon, bringing on Jacob Butterfield for Lovre.

54 mins - Lovre gets beyond Boa Morte and pulls back a dangerous cross towards O'Connor, but Reid anticipates the pass and intercepts. West Ham break and Hines beats his man before flashing a cross-shot across the face of goal.

53 mins - Barrera picks up possession on the right touchline and holds the ball as he waits for the run of Faubert inside him. The No12 plays a neat ball that is inches too strong and Barnsley clear. Close.

51 mins - Boa Morte tries to head the ball back to Green, but makes a bit of a meal of it and the ball bounces behind for a corner. West Ham stand firm and clear the ball up to Hines.s

49 mins - Hines collects wide on the left and is hauled back by Hassell. Free-kick. Noble curls it over but it's straight into the arms of Steele.

48 mins - Hammill takes the corner himself from the Barnsley left. Shackell gets above Boa Morte and heads powerfully down towards the far post, but Green is alert and dives on the ball.

47 mins - Noble loses the ball in midfield and Barnsley break through Hammill. He runs at Reid, but the New Zealand defender stands firm and blocks his cross behind for a corner.

46 mins - Barnsley get us back underway...

Half-time score - West Ham United 1-0 Barnsley

46 mins - That's half-time. Join us again in 15 minutes for the second half.

46 mins - We're going to have at least one added minute...

45 mins - Barrera takes on Hill on his outside before letting fly with an angled drive that Steele can only parry into the air before collecting.

44 mins - Obinna picks the ball up 35 yards out and ghosts past one player before shooting left-footed. He catches his shot well, but it's too close to Steele, who falls on the ball to his left.

41 mins - How on earth is it not 2-0!? Noble ends some neat possession by lofting a fantastic pass over left-back Hill to Barrera. The Mexican controls superbly and rolls the ball across the face of the goal for Hines. He has what looks like and open goal, but Steele gets across like lightning to block the ball on the line. The ball comes back to Hines, but his follow-up shot is also blocked. Hines lies face down on the turf in frustration.

37 mins - That may well have been a penalty, but not in the eyes of referee Neil Swarbrick, who awards only a corner when Obinna goes tumbling over a lunge from goalkeeper Steele. The corner comes over from the right and the goalkeeper collects.

35 mins - Big chance for Barnsley as Lovre gets goal-side of Tomkins but shoots with the outside of his right foot straight at Green. The Tykes win back possession again and Hammill runs at Reid before dragging his shot wide. Couple of warning signs for the home side, there.

34 mins - Reid picks out Hines with a superb 50-yard pass. He collects on his chest before swapping passes with Boa Morte and winning a corner. The set piece spins out to Barrera, whose shot is blocked. Tomkins picks up possession and crosses from the right, but Steele shows good handling to collect low down.

31 mins - That goal was no more than West Ham deserved to be honest. They'd been banging away on the Barnsley door for a few minutes and only the heroics of goalkeeper Steele had kept them on level terms.

29 mins - GOAL! Spector! He loves the cup competitions, doesn't he! The American had actually made a burst from a free-kick that was ignored by Mark Noble. Instead, the midfielder chose to take the ball on himself before shooting. The ball hit a Barnsley heel and span on to the toe of Spector, who took a touch and slid the ball low past Steele and into the bottom left-hand corner.

28 mins - West Ham are pushing hard here. First, Spector feeds Obinna and his shot is charged down by Hassell, then the ball breaks to Nouble and his shot hits Noble and spins a yard wide of the near post.

26 mins - Barrera gets down the right and wins a corner. The ball comes over and Obinna tries to head it goalwards, but it eludes his forehead and rolls out for a throw on the near side.

25 mins - Barrera heads wide when it looks easier to score. Nouble chased a loose ball and pulled it back to Boa Morte. His cross to the far post eludes the defence and bounces up invitingly for the No12, but he sends his diving header wide of the post.

24 mins - Some neat passing from Barnsley in midfield before Trippier lifts the ball over the top for Lovre, but it's a yard in front of the Serb's toe and Green collects.

23 mins - Birmingham have won 4-1 at Millwall. Back here, Trippier beats Boa Morte and gets in a low cross, but Tomkins and Reid combine to clear the danger.

21 mins - O'Connor lets fly from long range, but the ball flies well wide of Green's goal.

20 mins - Spector gets beyond the forwards and controls the ball well before trying to cut inside Shackell. The centre-back stands firm, though, and the American is crowded out of possession.

17 mins - Barrera gets forward well and wins a corner. However, Barnsley clear it easily and break. Boa Morte is on hand, though, to head the ball safely back to Green. West Ham break themselves and Nouble gets in behind again before forcing Steele into another save. The ball spins behind.

16 mins - Good football down the right from Barrera and Spector sends Faubert away. He sends in a dangerous cross towards Obinna that Shackell does well to glance clear. Hines keeps the ball in and Boa Morte delivers another cross that is scrambled away.

14 mins - Nouble is looking sharp today. He is putting himself about and holding the ball up nicely and bringing his team-mates into play.

12 mins - That was difficult skill but a fantastic attempt from Obinna, who beats the offside trap and tries to hit Noble's lofted through-ball with a first-time left-foot volley that flashes a yard wide of the far post.

8 mins - Good again. Spector holds the ball up well before finding Noble. He threads the ball through to Nouble, who holds off his marker before forcing Steele into another good save. The ball flies behind for a corner, which is headed clear by a Barnsley defender.

7 mins - That should have been 1-0. Obinna pokes the ball through for Nouble. He cuts the ball into the path of Hines, who shoots low but sees his effort smothered by the advancing Steele.

7 mins - Arismendi tries to send Lovre clear through the middle, but Tomkins is in the right place to stick out his right foot and make the interception.

5 mins - Reid clears to Obinna, who holds the ball up before trying to pick out Nouble with a 40-yard pass that skips through into the arms of Luke Steele.

4 mins - Nouble gets on to a long ball forward before beating right-back Hassell. The young striker tries to beat a second defender but loses the ball.

3 mins - Barrera is crowded out and Barnsley break down the centre. O'Connor's lay-off sends Hammill away and he bursts into the penalty area before losing control and going to ground. He wants a penalty and is waving his arms frantically, but it didn't look like a foul.

2 mins - Trippier is playing wide on the right of midfield and takes on Boa Morte, who concedes a throw. The ball is hurled into the box and the No13 is there to hack clear. When the ball comes forward again, Lovre is offside.

1 min - 15 seconds in and Nouble jumps for a long clearance from Green and gives away a free-kick.

3.01pm - Obinna and Nouble kick-off...

3pm - The two captains shake hands and exchange pleasantries. West Ham will kick-off, shooting towards the Sir Trevor Brooking Stand end. The sun is shining and we're set fair for a rip-roaring FA Cup tie. Here we go...

2.57pm - Here come the two teams, led by captains Robert Green and Jason Shackell.

2.55pm - This game represents a big chance for some of the fringe players to stake their claim for a starting place against Birmingham City on Tuesday evening. The likes of Jonathan Spector and Pablo Barrera have already impressed in the Carling Cup this season and will be eager to appear in the semi-final.

2.50pm - Barnsley and West Ham have met twice before in the FA Cup - in the fourth round in 1994, when Barnsley ran out 4-1 winners at Oakwell, and in the third round two seasons ago, when the Hammers won 3-0.

2.40pm - Barnsley are actually unchanged from their 2-1 home win over Coventry on Monday. In fact, even their seven substitutes are the same seven who sat on the bench against the Sky Blues. Midfielder Nathan Doyle put the Tykes a goal up early on with a long-range strike before former Hammers youngster Freddy Eastwood equalised for Coventry. Goran Lovre, a Serbia U21 international, netted the winner for Barnsley to lift them up to 16th in the Championship standings.

2.35pm - I'm not going to update you with every goal from the other ties, but Arsenal have equalised courtesy of a late, late Cesc Fabregas penalty.

2.30pm - The early morning gloom and grey clouds have disappeared and, for the time being, the Boleyn Ground is bathed in some January sun. I'm not sure how long it'll stay this way, though. A few miles to the south of here, the Hammers' Carling Cup semi-final opponents Birmingham City have already begun their FA Cup campaign at Millwall. Matt Derbyshire has scored twice and David Murphy once to put the Blues 3-0 up at Millwall by half-time. Elsewhere, Arsenal are trailling 1-0 at home to Leeds United. Here, the two teams are doing their pre-match exercises on the pitch.

Good afternoon and welcome to a wet Boleyn Ground for today's FA Cup third-round tie between West Ham United and npower Championship side Barnsley.

It is the second time in three seasons that the Tykes have visited east London at this stage of the world's most-famous knockout competition. In January 2009, West Ham ran out 3-0 winners, with Herita Ilunga, Mark Noble and Carlton Cole scoring the goals.

The Hammers will be eager to return to winning ways after being defeated 5-0 at Newcastle United in the Barclays Premier League on Wednesday evening. Barnsley defeated Coventry City 2-1 at Oakwell in the Championship on Monday afternoon. in their most recent outing.

Barnsley have won just twice in 27 visits to the Boleyn Ground, with their most recent success coming in the shape of a 5-2 League Cup victory in October 1987.

Historically, West Ham have won the FA Cup three times, lifting the trophy in 1964, 1975 and 1980. Barnsley's sole success came 99 years ago in 1912.

Team news-wise, the Hammers have made eight changes from the starting XI that lost at St James' Park. Captain-for-the-day Robert Green, James Tomkins and Mark Noble are the three survivors.

In come Julien Faubert, Winston Reid and Luis Boa Morte at the back, Zavon Hines, Jonathan Spector and Pablo Barrera in midfield and Victor Obinna and Frank Nouble in attack.
