Trio called up for U21s

James Tomkins, Junior Stanislas and Freddie Sears have all been called up to the England Under-21 squad for the friendly in Holland next Tuesday.

Tomkins was part of Stuart Pearce's U21 squad that made it to the finals of the UEFA European Under-21 tournament in Sweden in June. But with the likes of Mark Noble now too old to be considered for U21 duty, Pearce has handed five youngsters, including Stanislas and Sears, their first call-up for the game in Groningen.

"It's very early in the calendar but this is a fantastic double-header for the Under-21s and then the seniors," Pearce told the FA.com. "We're taking a few players that have had the experience of a summer tournament, that will stand us in good stead, but we have one or two new faces coming into the squad that will have to get their feet under the table very quickly".
