Hammers v Everton: Big Match Preview

West Ham United v Everton
Saturday, 21st April, 2007
Boleyn Ground
Kick off: 3pm

Referee: Mark Clattenburg (Durham)

Team News:

Alan Curbishley will hope to recall Anton Ferdinand to his squad after the defender missed Wednesday night's 4-1 defeat against Chelsea with a slight groin injury. Bobby Zamora will hope to make the 200th league start of his professional career, while Roy Carroll is available again after a shin injury.

Everton, meanwhile, hope to have Portuguese midfielder Manuel Fernandes back after injury and illness, but defender Nuno Valente is still out with a thigh strain.

Background:

The most recent meeting between the two sides was at Goodison Park back in December 2006, when goals from Leon Osman and James Vaughan earned the Merseysiders a 2-0 victory.

Everton are pushing for European qualification for the second time in three seasons, while the Hammers must win the match to maintain hopes of Premiership survival.

The visitors are currently enjoying a seven match unbeaten run and have drawn their last three matches away from home. Hammers have won three and lost two of their last five matches.

The Toffees have won three and drawn one of their last five League trips to Upton Park and will be hoping to secure a Premiership 'double' over the Hammers.

The last fixture at Upton Park between the two sides ended in a 2-2 draw, on March 4, 2006. Marlon Harewood's early opener was wiped out by a strike from Leon Osman, before Dean Ashton restored the lead with a superb left-foot effort, only for James Beattie to snatch another equaliser 20 minutes from time.
